Through a panel discussion, participants will deepen their understanding of the mental, physical, and emotional well-being needs of birthing people and their partners during the postpartum period (up to one year). This panel discussion explores the often-overlooked realities of the postpartum period through the lens of perinatal care professionals who work directly with families in the first critical weeks after giving birth. Centering both patient and partner experiences, the panel aims to spark dialogue among healthcare providers about how to close gaps in postpartum care and build more resilient and collaborative systems of support.

Objectives:

  1. Identify and understand the immediate and extended postpartum needs for both vaginal and cesarean birth
  2. Recognize the value of postpartum care professionals (e.g., doulas, lactation consultants, pelvic floor therapists) in delivering holistic, family-centered care
  3. Consider effective ways to integrate perinatal support professionals into care teams to better serve birthing families
  4. Explore strategies to embed quality improvement to improve practices and policies into postpartum care in hospital and clinical settings

Facilitators & Panelists:

  • Avery Margenot - Full-Spectrum Doula
  • Amal Hechehouche - Birth Doula
  • Jane Gajsiewicz - Postpartum Doula & Owner of Boston Area Doula Agency
